PhD Degrees Increase

Our investment in assistantships grew by nearly 24 percent, from $31.8 million in 2010 to $39.3 million in 2014.

Other accomplishments include:

  • The number of PhDs grew by 14 percent.
  • New online programs expanded professional offerings.
  • The number of graduate students receiving National Science Foundation research awards more than doubled between 2010 and 2014.
  • New interdisciplinary and dual degree programs include an innovative doctoral program aligned with the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education.
  • Expanded services to graduate students include streamlined admissions processes, additional advising and mentoring programs, new leave of absence policies, new teaching certifications, and increased funds for travel.
